Pare Subdistrict became famous all over the world because it was here that anthropologist of world caliber, Clifford Geertz, who was still a doctoral student at the time, conducted his field research which he then wrote as a book entitled The Religion of Java. In the book Geertz disguises Pare under the name "Mojokuto". In Pare, this anthropologist often discusses and consults using Kyai Ahmad Yazid ibn Thohir, who is one of the sources who helped the anthropologist in completing his book. [1]
Pare belongs to an obsolete city (subdistrict). This is evident from the existence of two temples not far from the city center, namely Surowono Temple & Tegowangi Temple, and the existence of a "Budo" statue which is perfectly located in the center of Pare district. These three relics illustrate that Pare was born hundreds of years ago.
One of the educational tours in Pare District is Kampung England. [2] Kampung England is located 25 km northeast of Kediri City, or 120 km southwest of Surabaya City. The village was pioneered by Kalend Osein, who was a student according to Kyai Ahmad Yazid. [1] Village and edit origin]
